You have been selected to participate in a Pilot program in the U.S. Army. Poor running mechanics lead to 85% of running injuries every year. Running is a key component of Military conditioning and readiness, it is therefore critical that the Army approach running technique like any other skill, there is a right and wrong way to run. Most running injuries can be avoided by improving the running mechanics of a Soldier. By signing up for this course, you will be among the first round of Certified Running Technique Specialists in the U.S. Army who will be taught how to use efficient running mechanics in your own running, as well as for the instruction of other Soldiers. Finally, you will be able to use your certification credential during and after your Military career to earn income as a Certified Running Technique Specialist at $50-75 per hour. More information can be found online at www.MilitaryRunning.com.

Background:

Congress has selected the Army to participate in an education pilot program designed to provide expanded education opportunities for Soldiers, officers and Wounded Warriors serving on active duty -- to include National Guard and Reserve Soldiers on extended active duty.

The intent of this short-term pilot program is to provide training in high-demand career fields to help Soldiers find employment after they transition out of the Army. There are over 35 million injured runners in the United States every year. As a Certified Running Technique Specialist, you will be joining the high demand field of Running Technique Instruction where a specialist can charge $50-75 dollars per hour to correct technique, establish a training regimen and treat injuries.

* There is no Additional Service Obligation (ADSO) for participants of this program.

  • Who (is Eligible): All Army Active-Duty, Reserve (on extended Active-Duty 6 months or longer), and National Guard service men and women are eligible.
  • What: Become a Certified Running Technique Specialist and Gait Analysis Expert.
  • Why: To expand your instructional abilities in the field of running as a specialist in this high-demand field. Since running is a key element of Military conditioning and readiness, the need and demand for this specialty will only continue to increase.
  • When: The course begins on September 30th, 2009 – you will be given several short introductory assignments via email to complete on your own time. The course will conclude in 2010 with a scheduled Certification Course at your Post to be determined by year’s end.
  • Where: Introductory materials will be distributed to you on Post after the course begins. The Certification portion of the course will conclude with a 3-day, hands-on program to officially certify you as a Running Technique Specialist.
