Department of Defense (DOD) Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL) is the result of extensive inter-Service collaboration to facilitate credentialing of Service members. Credentialing translates to greater Service occupation knowledge, skills, and competency as well as provides pathways for promotion and successful transition to civilian employment.

Approved Funding Programs
Air Force – COOL Credentialing
Active duty Air Force enlisted members, or reservists and National Guard members on title 10 or title 32 orders respective. The Air Force COOL office will determine institution acceptance. Army – Reserve Credentialing Assistance
Active duty Army enlisted members, or reservists and National Guard members on title 10 or title 32 orders respective. The Army COOL office will determine institution acceptance. This program pays for credentials that complement the student’s Army career.
Army – Guard Credentialing Assistance

Army – Civilian Training
ArmyIgnitED 2.0 is the training management system for Army Civilians to apply for funding in support of their training. Funding is available to Army Civilians to apply for competitive professional development training, education, and leader development events. This program pays for training that compliments the Civilian career.
Coast Guard – COOL Credentialing
CA is available to eligible active duty and SELRES members (enlisted and officers) as well as GS and WG civilian employees. Note: Civilian employees who are occupying a position, or seeking to qualify for a position, that is excepted due to the confidential, policy-making nature of the position are ineligible for CA funding
Marine Corps – COOL Credentialing
Active-duty Marines may obtain funding for credential examinations, renewals, maintenance fees, and other mandatory examination administrative fees, referred to below as “professional credentialing expenses.”
Navy – COOL Credentialing
Active Duty Navy and Navy Reserve, less Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) and Voluntary Training Unit (VTU), may obtain funding for credential examinations, renewals, maintenance fees, and other mandatory examination administrative fees, referred to below as “professional credentialing expenses.”
Civilian – COOL Credentialing
DOD Civilian COOL does not provide funding for costs associated with initial credential attainment or maintaining and renewing the credential. Each service branch has different policies regarding funding for civilian employees. In general, funding for civilian employees is determined and budgeted for at the Command level through Local Organization Funding Personnel required to attain and maintain credentials to carryout their job responsibilities might be able to receive funding for the credential. For example, across the federal government, Cyberspace Workforce (CWF) personnel may have credentials funded if the credentials are required by their work. GI Bill
Finally, for veterans and others eligible for GI Bill Funding, you may be able to have credentialing fees paid for through the GI BILL.
